University jumps to No. 18 worldwide for performing arts

According to the 2017 QS World University Rankings released on March 8, eleven U.S. universities ranked in the top 25, with the University of Rochester No. 8 among them.

Visiting students apply computational tools to music, mind

Can a computer learn to read an ancient musical score? Or teach a person to become a better public speaker? Visiting undergraduates–many from under-represented groups in the STEM fields–will work on summer projects investigating these questions and more.

Eastman alumni of ‘The President’s Own’ to perform at inauguration

Eleven alumni of the Eastman School of Music will perform in the 58th Inauguration of the President of the United States on Jan. 20, 2017, as members of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. This marks the Marine Band’s 55th inaugural appearance.

Archives offer artists, historians rich source of inspiration

Archived letters between artist Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz were the inspiration for the Letters from Georgia song cycle by Kevin Puts ’94E, ’99E (DMA). Rochester’s collections–like others around the world–provide insight in an age of email and texting.

Class, symposium explore ‘New Approaches to Poetry and Song’

Music in the American Wild wraps up national parks tour
