University to host 200 students from 20 nations at International Baccalaureate World Student Conference

The IBWSC brings the leaders of tomorrow together to focus on critical thinking skills. This year’s theme will be reaching solutions through play, and keynote speakers include game designer and author Jane McGonigal and Bob Mankoff, cartoon editor for The New Yorker magazine.

Scientists hand out lemonade to support national foundation

Professor Danielle Benoit and her students will be serving lemonade and explaining their work on childhood cancer therapies this weekend as part of a national effort organized by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which has helped fund her research.

Summer carillon series brings internationally acclaimed performers to Rochester

The University will begin its annual summer carillon series on Monday, July 6, with a performance from award-winning carillonneur Joey Brink. The concert is the first of four free outdoor shows that will take place during the month of July on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. on the Eastman Quad on River Campus.

Students perform musical theater favorites in end of semester showcase

Students from the Musical Theater Workshop at the University of Rochester will perform stage favorites in a show titled “A New World!” The revue is a culmination of a semester-long course in a two level workshop series through the University’s college music department in acting and singing for 14 undergraduate and graduate students.

Send Silence Packing

Students affiliated with Active Minds, a national organization dedicated to mental health awareness, planted 1,100 pinwheels– representing the number of college students lost to suicide each year– in Wilson Quad. “Send Silence Packing”, as the traveling exhibition is called, is a program designed to raise awareness about the incidence and impact of suicide, connect students to needed mental health resources, and inspire action for suicide prevention.
