A $1.2 million Talent Search grant from the U.S. Department of Education will enable academic services for upwards of 500 RCSD students each year via College Prep Centers at East High School and Vanguard Collegiate High School.

The grant will be used to continue and expand the collaboration with volunteers from the Highlands at Pittsford retirement community and retired UR staff and librarians to transcribe, annotate, and tag achival documents.

Four Rochester researchers are among the latest recipients of the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious award for junior faculty members.

Susan Uselmann and Thomas Devaney were awarded “Enduring Questions” grants, which aim to help in “the development of a new course that demonstrates the enduring value of the Humanities by extending beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries.” Peter Christensen has received a Summer Stipend.

Rochester is one of four New York colleges and universities to receive a grant to fund innovative environmental projects as part of the College Council Grant Program.

With over 250 student groups on campus, the reconfigured and more flexible spaces will allow groups to host speakers, programs, and other activities organized for and by students. Work will be done in phases and expected to be complete by August 2016.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $4.24 million to Carmala Garzione and John Tarduno, both professors of earth and environmental sciences, to launch this joint U.S.-China research project.

Grotz, director of the University’s translation studies program, has been awarded a Literary Translation Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts to support the English translation of several poems by the Polish writer Jerzy Ficowski.

The award seeks to build upon recent successes of Sandia’s Magnetized Liner Inertial Fusion (MagLIF) concept. The concept uses a laser to heat fusion fuel contained in a small cylinder as it is compressed by the huge magnetic field of Sandia’s massive Z accelerator.

The imaging system being developed at Rochester builds on work pioneered by David Williams, widely regarded as one of the world's leading experts on human vision. Williams pioneered the use of adaptive optics technologies for vision applications.
