Rochester has an opportunity to be a model of respect for all, says Richard Feldman

In a message to mark the start of the spring semester, Richard Feldman, interim president designate, says he hopes the University community can begin a period of healing and rebuilding, a process guided by “our respect for each other and our differences in a campus community that is safe and inclusive for all.”

Richard Feldman appointed interim president

The Board of Trustees has announced that professor Richard Feldman, former dean of the College, will serve as interim president. Professor Feldman has served the University for more than 40 years. He will replace Joel Seligman, who has announced he will step down as president on February 28.

Richard Feldman looks back on a decade as dean

Richard Feldman arrived at the University as an assistant professor of philosophy in 1975 and is now stepping down from his role as Dean of the College. “All the things beyond the classroom that contribute to the students’ experience have really made an impression on me.”

Going out with a bang

Students on River Campus celebrate the last day of classes with a performance by the chamber orchestra, conducted by David Harman, of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture on the steps of Rush Rhees Library. The performance marked the final conducting appearance by Harman, who is retiring this semester. Richard Feldman, who is also retiring this year as dean of the college, performed the cannon solo.

Richard Feldman to step down as College dean at end of academic year

Feldman, who has served as dean of the College for the past decade, is also a professor of philosophy in the School of Arts & Sciences and will be returning to the philosophy department following a year of leave in the 2017-18 academic year.
