David Kaufman has joined the New York City law firm of Morrison & Foerster as partner. . . . Marty Nager writes, “I was recently installed as president of the Rhode Island Dental Association, which represents more than 600 Rhode Island dentists.” . . . Rudolph Tanzi, a leading expert on Alzheimer’s disease at Massachusetts General Hospital, was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article on efforts to halt the disease. He is working on finding the genetic causes of Alzheimer’s and hopes to develop treatments that block mental deterioration at an earlier stage.

Thomas Cassada (see ’50). . . . Phil Freedman ’82S (MBA) was appointed CEO of Chorus Communications in Ireland.

1982
David Geldmacher has published Contemporary Diagnosis and Management of Alzheimer’s Dementia, a concise handbook for clinicians with a practice-oriented focus. . . . Stephen Halle joined Combined Properties as vice president of property management in December 2002. . . . Mentor Graphics appointed Joseph Sawicki vice president and general manager of the company’s design-to-silicon division.

1983
Avadis (Avie) Tevanian has been named Apple’s chief software technology officer. He has been with the company since 1997.

1984
Mike Stein (who graduated as Finkelstein) writes, “Hi to all my Rochester friends. My third child, Leah, had her first birthday in September in our new house in Potomac, Md. I also have a new job working in labor relations for the Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services, USDA. And I will be continuing to teach Judaic studies to sixth graders at B’nai Israel Talmud Torah in Rockville, Md. All that wonderful education from the Department of Religion and Classics at Rochester is finally to be utilized again. See you at our 20th reunion.”

1986
Shoma Banerjee Mahajan ’91S (MBA) and Navin Mahajan ’89S (MBA) announce the birth of their daughter, Sonia Banerjee Mahajan, born March 19, 2002. She joins her brother, Sharad, 3 1/2. They live in Houston. . . . Brian Prince ’89S (MBA), his wife, Christine, and their two daughters returned to the United States after spending three years in Japan, where Brian was an executive at one of Japan’s leading banks. Brian, who was raised in Rochester, is a primary investor in the “fast ferry” project—a planned ferry service between Rochester and Toronto intended to promote tourism in both cities.

1987
Louis Beardell was named partner at the Philadelphia law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. . . . Anthony D’Agnese writes that he and his family “now live in San Diego, Calif., and are really enjoying the sunshine and awaiting the arrival of our second child.” He sends a photo of himself, his wife, Carol, and his 22-month-old son, Luke, sporting Rochester shirts. . . . Maria Budihas Jensen, a major in the U.S. Army stationed in Kuwait, was assigned briefly to Iraq last June. . . . Mark Kreib was promoted to the rank of commander while serving with U.S. Naval Forces Europe in London.

1988
Robert Colon is assistant state attorney general in charge of the Rochester office. . . . Shane Coppola ’89S (MBA) was appointed president and CEO of the Westwood One radio network. . . . Kelley Hickey Gridley was named commercial credit officer of the Tompkins Trust Company in Ithaca, N.Y. . . . Janna Olevnik and Wesley Jones were married September 7 at the Glen Iris Inn in Letchworth State Park near Mt. Morris, N.Y. They live in Boulder, Colo.

1989
Ronald Battaglia joined the Buffalo law firm of Hodgson Russ. . . . Jim Dass has moved to West Lafayette, Ind., with his wife, Dina, and their 3-year-old daughter, Grace. He has accepted the position of human resources manager for Great Lakes Chemical Corp. . . . Michael Ochs and Maureen Frickanisce announce their engagement, with an October wedding planned. . . . Mark Zaid represented more than 50 relatives of victims in the suit against the Libyan government for the 1988 bombing of the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie, Scotland. (Also killed in the crash were two Rochester students, Katharine Hollister ’90 and Eric Coker ’90.) He also is representing Congressman Lane Evans (D-Ill.), the ranking minority member on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, as he files a lawsuit to obtain documents detailing federal hiring practices regarding veterans.
