Courtney Sobanski

Area of Focus: High School mathematics (Algebra 1, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, AP Statistics, and AP Calculus)

Courtney has been teaching mathematics at Tourtellotte Memorial High School for the past 10 years.  She participated in the Noyce Scholars Program during her undergraduate studies at Hofstra University and is currently a Noyce Fellow through the Noyce Math Teacher Leadership Program at the University of Connecticut. Through the program, she has looked at the importance of cross-district collaboration within small rural school districts, as well as the importance of tailored professional development. She credits these programs and the community she has built within them for much of her growth as a teacher and leader.

As a staff member at a small school, she has had the opportunity to teach various courses and establish strong connections with her students.  She strives to create a classroom that promotes problem-based learning and encourages students to collaborate and solve challenging problems together.  She is passionate about getting students to engage in math at a deeper level and giving students opportunities to apply what they learn beyond tests.
