On the way to $1.2 billion, the University has met—and is currently exceeding—its campaign goals for faculty ($350 million) and the Annual Fund ($130 million). Campaign support to date has established 93 new endowed professorships throughout the University, which has exceeded the original goal of 80.

“We view being part of the formative stages of the Institute for Data Science as a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Tim Wentworth, a member of the University’s Board of Trustees since 2013.

Trustee Cathy Minehan and her husband, Jerry Corrigan, have committed an additional $1 million to support the scholarship they established in 2004. The scholarship provides assistance for students in the School of Arts & Sciences with significant financial need, and preference is given to underrepresented minorities, athletes in good academic standing, and those pursuing research in the social sciences.

Robert Lamb Sproull, internationally known physicist, professor and the seventh president of the University of Rochester, died Oct. 9 at the age of 96. Sproull joined the University as provost in 1968 and was president from 1970 to 1984.

Jamal Rossi came to Eastman in 2005 as senior associate dean. He served as executive associate dean at Eastman from 2007 until September 2013, when he was appointed dean of the school following the illness and resignation at that time of former Messinger Dean Douglas Lowry.

Ainslie has been senior associate dean, full-time MBA program, at UCLA Anderson School of Management since 2010. The appointment, subject to Board approval, is effective after Dean Mark Zupan’s term ends on June 30.

As the Meliora Challenge Campaign pushes past this historic mark, the University joins a group of 29 private U.S. colleges and universities to exceed $1 billion.

The University of Rochester Board of Trustees elected three new trustees at its May meeting.

"It's a privilege and a pleasure to be able to contribute in my small way to a department that enriched my life," said Hilfiker. "I am a very proud and grateful alumnus."

It was his reputation for innovation and his insistence on dignified, respectful care that earned Hurlbut an invitation to join the University of Rochester Medical Center board in 1988.
