Earth Day 2008

Friday, April 18

6:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Personal electronics recycling (computer hardware, DVD/MP3 players, cell phones, etc.)

Saturday, April 19

The student environmental action and awareness group Grassroots will sponsor the following events on the River Campus:

9 a.m.
Clean up of Genesee Valley Park. Students will meet at the clock tower in Dandelion Square.

Noon to 4 p.m.
Campus and community groups will share information about local environmental efforts on Wilson Quadrangle. In case of rain, the tables will move to Hirst Lounge inside Wilson Commons. There will be live performances by Celtic, Sihir Bellydance, Radiance Dance Theatre, and the Strong Jugglers.

3 p.m.
Tree planting and arboretum tour led by Dan Schied, University manager of horticulture and grounds. Members of Grassroots plant a tree every year to commemorate Earth Day. Students will gather at the clock tower in Dandelion Square.

4:30 p.m.
Speaker: Joseph Ferrara, New Health Café. "The New Health Paradigm." Gowen Room, Wilson Commons. In case of rain, location will move to Dewey Hall 2162.

Health Bites: 'Green Living.' University wellness coordinator Shaquana-Patrice Divers discusses "The Significance and Simplicity of 'Green Living' in Celebration of Earth Day 2008." Sponsored by Strong Employee Assistance Program, the presentation requires registration by calling 275-0432. The talk is in the Medical Center, K-307 (3-6408).
