Department of Defense medical teams arrive at Strong Memorial Hospital
Two US Department of Defense military medical teams have been deployed to support clinical operations at Strong Memorial Hospital. Learn more about the Air Force medical teams—which consist of approximately 40 clinical personnel and support staff—that arrived in Rochester over the weekend.

2022 Breast Cancer Research Grant Initiative
The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester is seeking proposals for its 2022 Breast Cancer Research Grant Initiative. Proposals must have the potential to yield significant breakthroughs in the following breast cancer research priorities: cause, prevention, prevention of metastasis, or cure. Awards are available for predoctoral trainees/postdoctoral fellows ($25,000) or faculty ($50,000). Proposals are due electronically by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, with hard copies to follow. Lecture: ‘Take No for an Answer: Forcing Consent in Moliere's Tartuffe’
This talk will use Molière’s Tartuffe as a case study to examine the possibilities of saying “no” based on literary genre, relations of power, and the social context. Presented by Jennifer Tamas, an associate professor of French at Rutgers University, the lecture takes place Thursday, February 17, at 5 p.m. in the Gamble Room on the third floor of Rush Rhees Library.
This year’s annual diabetes conference will provide primary care physicians as well as healthcare providers in a wide variety of other specialties with up-to-date information on diabetes research and treatment options. Program themes include a focus on personalizing drug therapy based on risk profile, addressing diet plans, treating diabetes during pregnancy, and preventing cardiovascular and kidney disease. Run, walk, or pledge your support for transplant patients at Strong
The Rochester River Run/Walk 5K returns virtually on Sunday, April 3. Join the cause from your very own racecourse to help raise money to assist patients at Strong Memorial Hospital awaiting and recovering from heart, liver, kidney, or pancreas transplant surgery. Mental health is as important as your physical health and taking time for yourself is an important part of growing as an artist and scholar. The UHS Health Promotion Office is hosting a mental health fair on Thursday, February 17, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on the second floor of the Eastman School of Music. Enjoy wellness activities and giveaways and meet groups from the campus and the community including Active Minds, Mindful University Project, the National Alliance of Mental Illness, the CARE Network, and UR Connected.
Are you passionate or curious about the practice of mindfulness? Want to support the mental well-being of your peers, develop leadership skills, and tap into your creativity? In this workshop, students will learn the history of mindfulness, the neuroscience of mindfulness and meditation, various mindfulness meditation practices, trauma-sensitive approaches, inclusive language, and best practices for facilitating mindfulness. As a result of this program, students will receive credit towards the Medallion Program and then can choose to become student mindfulness facilitators with the Mindful University Project. Registration is required.
Eating disorder screenings
In honor of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, the University Counseling Center and UHS Health Promotion Office are offering brief screenings with a clinician so you can explore your relationship with food and have your questions answered. Learn more about the screenings, taking place Tuesday, February 22, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room “oasis” in Rush Rhees Library.
