Meliora Weekend returns from Thursday, September 29, to Sunday, October 2, with expert voices, live entertainment, milestone reunions, and opportunities to celebrate shared connections with the University—including the popular Meliora Village, offering local food and beverages, fun and games for the family, carnival rides, live music, and more. Keynote speakers include Nobel laureate and former US Secretary of Energy Steven Chu ’70; journalist Michele Norris, former host of National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and founder of the Race Card Project; and Tony Kushner, Pulitzer Prize– and Tony Award–winning author, playwright, and screenwriter. Canadian Indie pop band Walk Off the Earth will perform the weekend’s headline concert outdoors on Goergen Field.
On Friday evening, Eastman School of Music will celebrate its centennial year with a prism concert themed “Fascinating Rhythm,” which will feature musical groups performing in succession from different locations around Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Throughout the concert, audiences will enjoy a variety of musical styles and genres.

Flags to be lowered for Life Trustee James Gleason
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital will be lowered Tuesday, July 12, for Life Trustee James Gleason ’68S (MBA), who died June 17. Gleason, former head of Gleason Corporation, joined the Board of Trustees in 1980 and subsequently served on many committees, including the Strong Memorial Hospital Board of Managers and the Simon Business School Executive Advisory Committee. He and his wife, Jan, gave generously of their time and resources over the years—supporting the Gleason Fellowship Program at Simon and, through the Gleason Foundation, providing the lead gifts for the construction and naming of Gleason Hall and the naming of Gleason Library.

Panel discussion on the Gay Liberation Front anniversary and Todd Union landmark celebration
Join a panel discussion and reception with original members of the Gay Liberation Front, local LGBTQ+ leaders, and student members of PRIDE today, July 11, at 5:30 p.m. in Todd Union.
Todd Union is being inducted into the National Register of Historic Places to commemorate the Gay Liberation Front student group meetings held there in the 1970s, which paved the way for numerous Rochester LGBTQ+ organizations.

‘Imagining Possible FutURes’ conversation
The second “Imagining Possible FutURes” conversation takes place Wednesday, July 13, at 1 p.m. EDT via Zoom. The conversation will explore the theme of joy in work and finding satisfaction and fulfillment. All members of the University community are welcome to attend. The conversation will be facilitated in a restorative circle format and offer space for attendees to share ideas, hopes, and goals in a supportive environment.
