The undergraduate course “Communicating Your Professional Identity” teaches communication skills and strategies to help students present their best professional selves. Rochester students and alumni reflect on and praise the decade-old course that teaches how to navigate the professional world.

The Department of Transportation and Parking Management’s online services will be unavailable from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, while My Parking Online is switched from NetID login to Active Directory (AD). If you have questions or need assistance during this time, contact the Parking Office at (585) 275-4524. Your AD credentials are the same credentials you typically use to log into a Windows computer, access the University wireless network, or access enterprise services such as Microsoft 365, Workday Student, and Workday Finance. If you do not know your AD credentials, visit MyIdentity.Rochester.edu. If you do not have AD credentials, you will need to request an account by contacting the University IT Help Desk at UnivITHelp@rochester.edu.
Rochester’s Curt Smith remembers Tim McCarver
“McCarver’s appeal flowed from knowing that baseball is not an island; rather, it is part of culture as a whole,” writes Curt Smith, a senior lecturer in the Department of English, about Tim McCarver, a major-league catcher who became a Hall of Fame television analyst from 1980 to 2013. Read Smith’s remembrance of McCarver, who died on February 16 at the age of 81.
Big Ideas in Science and Medicine Pitch Competition
Do you have a solution to a pressing problem in the medical or biotech fields? Pitch your idea to a panel of judges for a chance to win cash prizes of $500 (first place), $200 (second place), or $125 (third place). The competition will be held over Zoom at noon on Wednesday, March 8. Teams will present a three-minute pitch and there will be three minutes of Q&A. Register by March 6. If you would like some coaching or feedback on your pitch and idea, email SMD Entrepreneurs President Brandon Davis, to set up an appointment.
PAWS for stress relief with therapy dogs
Stop by the Goergen Athletic Center to relieve your stress with some puppy love. Therapy dogs will be there from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Monday, March 13. You can also find free Health Promotion Office goodies while supplies last.
E5 program applications now open
The e5 program, a partnership between the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the College Center for Advising Services, is currently accepting applications. The e5 program is a unique opportunity for qualified undergraduate students to use a fifth, tuition-free year to pursue or launch an entrepreneurial project that is either social or economic in nature. Applications for the fall 2023 semester are due Thursday, March 16. Complete the ‘Be There’ certificate as part of the Medallion Program
In collaboration with the Health Promotion Office, the Be There certificate counts towards an Interpersonal Competence workshop for the College’s Medallion Program. The certificate is a digital, self-paced learning experience from Jack.org and the Born This Way Foundation designed to increase mental health literacy and provide the knowledge, skills, and confidence you need to safely support anyone who may be struggling with their mental health. It offers universal best practices while diving deeper into the intersections of culture, identity, and social determinants of mental wellness. Email medallion@rochester.edu with your completion certificate and they will send you a Level 2 Workshop Reflection.
Community-based participatory research pipeline to pilot awards
Academic and community partners who completed or intend to complete the Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s “Introduction to Community-Based Participatory Research” (CBPR) training, or who have demonstrated experience in CBPR can apply for up to $15,000 in Community-Based Participatory Research Pipeline to Pilot Awards. Applications should focus on pilot research that leads to a pilot funding application from the institute or to independent external funding. Research teams who apply for this opportunity must consist of at least one University faculty member and at least one community partner from the greater Rochester area.
Annual Faculty Development Colloquium in the Health Professions
The annual Faculty Development Colloquium in the Health Professions brings together faculty, educators, and health care professionals to share best practices. A thought-provoking plenary session and panel discussion, and workshops covering a variety of topics will help renew and support participants in their professional roles. The event takes place Wednesday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Class of ’62 Auditorium (G-9425), Medical Center. Proposal submissions are due March 31.
