Through a $100,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation’s Public Knowledge Program, the close-up—one of the most powerful techniques in film and television—is the subject of a 15-month collaborative study between Rochester and Bowdoin College. The project, “A Digital History of the Close-Up in Narrative Film and Television,” is being led at Rochester by Joel Burges, an associate professor of English and of visual and cultural studies.

UR Financials, UR Procurement, UR Student upgrades this weekend
UR Financials and UR Procurement (P2P), and UR Student perform system upgrades every second weekend of March and September. The system will be temporarily unavailable to complete upgrade activities from Friday, March 10, at 9 p.m. through Saturday, March 11, at 8 a.m. While the system will be restored on Saturday morning, users are asked to refrain from logging in until 5 p.m. as the University Support teams conduct final configuration and system validation. A full maintenance schedule is available online.
The upgrade is not expected to significantly impact functionality. If there are any feature changes, details will be available within the system’s announcements. Marvin Doyley, the Wilson Professor of Electronic Imaging and chair of electrical and computer engineering, and Avice O’Connell, a professor of imaging sciences and the director of UR Medicine Breast Imaging, have been selected as fellows of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
Col Raimond, director of LGBTQ life at the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center, has been awarded the ACPA Coalition for Sexuality and Gender Identities’ Petey Peterson Public Service Award for significant contributions to higher education and to their institution through the support of and efforts in LGBTQ awareness.

COVID-19 treatment clinical trial
A clinical trial for a new COVID-19 treatment is now enrolling at the Medical Center. You or someone you know may be able to enroll if you have tested positive within the past three days, are currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and are 18 years of age or older.
