Rochester Conversations website highlights values-based approach to free expression

A new University website, Rochester Conversations, has launched as a central point for understanding the University’s approach to promoting a values-based culture that encourages thoughtful discussion and open dialogue.  The site is intended to be a guidepost for how groups and individuals at the University can constructively and effectively share multiple perspectives and opinions. The website also specifically highlights the University’s policies on demonstrations, protests, vigils, and camping, and the key changes made to these policies that are now in place.

Two alumni give $1 million each to support Simon Business School

Ron Fielding ’73 (MA), ’76S (MBA), ’18 (Honorary) and University Trustee Juan Jones ’88S (MBA) have each made new $1 million gifts to support students at Simon Business School, advancing their ongoing commitment to education and student success. Simon School Dean Sevin Yeltekin says, “Their generous contributions reflect their belief in our students’ potential and their dedication to fostering the next generation of business leaders and innovators.”

Discover opportunities with Guggenheim Securities

Join the Greene Center on Wednesday, September 25, for an opportunity to learn from a panel of Rochester alumni about their journeys with Guggenheim Securities. This will be an interactive session where you can learn about summer 2026 Internships with the company and network with alumni. The event takes place from 6 to 7 p.m. in Dewey Hall, Room 1-101. The Office of Total Rewards hosts a retiree benefits webinar on Wednesday, September 25, at 11 a.m. to discuss what it means to be eligible for retiree benefits, health and dental insurance, Medicare, enrollment periods, and other benefits offered to you as a University retiree.

Workshop on engaging students through anonymous platforms

The Teaching Center’s Instructor Spotlight is Karen Berger, an associate professor of Earth and environmental sciences, who will offer a virtual workshop on Thursday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to noon. Open to all University instructors, this Teaching Center workshop explores using anonymous platforms to stimulate conversation among students and enable them to ask questions, share their thoughts and feedback, and engage with course content and each other more confidently. Amazon Web Services Research Immersion Day

The Center for Integrated Research Computing and the UR Cloud Operations Team invite you to participate in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Research Immersion Day on Wednesday, September 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Helen Wood Hall, Room 1W-509. Hosted by Amazon, the workshop will focus on creating and deploying machine learning workflows for research in the AWS cloud environment. Find session times here; no registration is required. Lunch will be provided by Amazon.

International Theatre Program presents immersive Oedipus

The International Theatre Program’s production of Oedipus is an immersive experience in which audiences follow the action throughout Todd Union, which doubles as the quarantined city of Thebes. Audiences are not asked to perform but may be invited to open letters, play “Space Invaders” against Kreon, or follow Jokasta through the city’s underground maze. All the drama and the tragedy of Sophocles’s timeless and haunting story of a man escaping the curse of his destiny are there, but with a twist not to be missed. The curtain rises at 8 p.m. Thursday, September 26, and runs through Sunday, September 29. Find show times and tickets here.

Attend the final round of the Three Minute Thesis competition

University Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs shares the top six competitors who advance to the final round of the Three Minute Thesis competition on Friday, September 27, during Meliora Weekend. All are welcome to attend; registration is required. Email Jodi Miller with questions.

Nonviolence at Work book release party

Join the MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence to celebrate the publication of Culture Shift: Nonviolence at Work centering on how to work together through difficulty and with humanity. The event takes place on Friday, September 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Ask Security Anything session

Faculty, staff, and students can join Information Security on Thursday, October 3, for its next Ask Security Anything session where they will discuss everything there is to know about Data Security. Hispanic Heritage Celebration Day at MAG

Enjoy free museum admission, community and cultural tables, live dances and music, performances, and presentations around Hispanic countries at Memorial Art Gallery’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration Day on Sunday, October 6, from noon to 5 p.m. This year’s spotlight country is Peru and the theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”

Applications open for new imaging pilot grants

Apply today for the Center for Advance Brain Imaging and Neurophysiology (CABIN) pilot projects to support research using the ultra-high field 9.4T MRI-PET system, which can range from discovery-oriented research to dissemination and implementation science. All faculty members, postdocs, and students are encouraged to apply by Friday, November 1.
