ROCHESTER IN THE NEWS

Taylor Swift’s last record made up more than 6 percent of all album sales in 2024. Will The Life of a Showgirl do even better?

MarketWatch, August 12

“With streaming turning dollars into pennies for a lot of artists, that Taylor Swift is able to drive the whole market like this is a genuine phenomenon,” says John Covach, the Arthur Satz Professor of the Humanities, professor of music theory at the Eastman School of Music, and the director of the Institute for Popular Music. “It’s like when the Dow takes off, but it’s really being driven by one stock.”

THINGS TO DO

Fostering that Yellowjacket spirit

Student enjoys a ride on the swings during Dandelion Day.

With classes starting soon, thoughts naturally turn to essential campus experiences for students. The University offers a host of programs designed to foster that Yellowjacket spirit, including Community Weekends and Rochester Traditions.

But if we’re talking must-see (and do), taking a spin on some rides during Dandelion Day, getting medieval at the Boar’s Head Dinner, and ascending Rush Rhees Library as part of a tower tour reign supreme. Mark your calendars for this year’s can’t-miss events.
