HIGHLAND
HOSPITAL
• The Hospital was again ranked as one of the top
hospitals in New York State and the region. The US
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services gave the
hospital a score of four out of five stars, which was
attained by only 12 hospitals in the state. Also, U.S.
News & World Report recognized Highland as a “Best
Regional Hospital,” a designation earned by less than 10
percent of nearly 5,000 hospitals in the country.
• The Geriatric Fracture Center received the highest
recertification available, Premier Level Status, through
the International Geriatric Fracture Society CORE
$1,222,108 Certification Program.
Pledged
• When the first phase of a 30,000-square-foot project on
the south side of the hospital was completed brand new,
state-of-the-art surgical rooms became fully operational.
WILMOT CANCER
INSTITUTE
• The Institute continued to make advances in
immunotherapy, where progress is accelerating in
engaging the immune system to fight cancer. Wilmot
researchers are contributing to those advances, learning
more about the role of immune cells in cancer, studying
promising new therapies and developing novel ways to
improve immunotherapy.
• The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program performed
its 3,000th transplant. Nearly a dozen new clinical trials
were opened for gynecologic cancers.
$4,779,160 • Investigators from the Institute presented their findings
Pledged at major national meetings held by the American Society
of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of
Hematology. Their studies included addressing side
effects of treatment with exercise, new biomarkers for
bile duct cancers, and improving treatment for chronic
lymphocytic leukemia, among other findings.
