Kevin Garewal named dean of University of Rochester libraries

Following a national search, Kevin Garewal has been named University of Rochester vice provost and dean of the University of Rochester libraries, effective February 2022. Garewal is a noted collaborative leader with extensive collection development experience in university, public, and special libraries, most recently as associate director of collections at Harvard Law School Library. Garewal succeeds Mary Ann Mavrinac, who has served in this leadership role since 2012 and is retiring in January 2022. Visit the University’s Newscenter to learn more.

The University has completed its search for the position of Vice Provost and Andrew H. and Janet Dayton Neilly Dean of the University of Rochester Libraries.
As a leading private research institution, the University of Rochester libraries are at the core of the University’s mission. The vice provost and dean of libraries will guide Rochester’s libraries in supporting faculty, students, and the broader community.
This position will have administrative responsibility for many of the University’s library divisions, as well as oversight for the library’s policies and enterprise systems. The role of dean of libraries will be critical in advancing the University’s research services and scholarly resources.
