Frequently Asked Questions

What is Meliora Weekend?

Meliora Weekend was founded in 2001 following the successful Sesquicentennial celebration of 2000. Designed for University of Rochester alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends, the weekend encompasses reunions, family weekend, a showcase of UR student and faculty/staff talent, and homecoming activities.

When is Meliora Weekend 2017?

This year, Meliora Weekend will be held from Thursday, October 12 to Sunday, October 15 2017.

What kinds of events happen during Meliora Weekend?

Meliora Weekend truly has something for everyone! The schedule includes major speakers, entertainment, symposia and panel discussions, reunion events, sporting events, seminars, open houses, and much, much more.

Where can I find a campus map?

We’ll post the official Meliora Weekend 2017 map later this summer.

How do I register?

Registration and event information was mailed in early July. Didn’t get your brochure? Click here! Registration opens on this website on July 26, 2017 at Noon (EDT). To view a paper copy of the registration form, please click here.

What is the Meliora Weekend Pass?

The Meliora Weekend Pass will help you enjoy your weekend to the fullest! Included in your registration, this wristband should be worn throughout the weekend to give you access to all non-ticketed events. Stay tuned for other events that will be included in your registration!

Can I attend if I didn't pre-register?

Yes, but you may miss out! We strongly encourage advance registration as many of the weekend’s events will sell out.

What is the cancellation policy?

Say it ain’t so! If you must cancel all or part of your Meliora Weekend 2017 reservation, please do so by midnight on October 1, 2017 and we’ll provide you with a refund (minus a $15 processing fee). Due to catering and logistical commitments, no refunds will be given after this date.

To request a cancellation, please email or fax your written request to 585.276.2623.

Are children welcome?

Yes! Alumni, parents, and friends are encouraged to get the entire family in the Meliora spirit. A variety of the weekend’s events are designed for children of all ages.

I have some particular needs related to accessibility. What should I do?

The University of Rochester is committed to making its campuses accessible to persons with disabilities, however at this time, not all areas are fully accessible. Please contact us if you have specific needs and we will assist you. We’ll also have maps of ADA accessibility at on-site registration during the weekend.

Is handicap parking available?

Yes. Once you arrive on campus, parking staff can direct you to the closest available handicap parking space. You must have a government-issued handicap parking sticker in order to utilize these spaces. If you request handicap parking when you register, we’ll provide you with more information closer to the weekend.

During the Weekend

What if I have an emergency or need first aid?

Pick up a Blue Light Emergency Phone or dial x13 from any other University phone. From an on-campus pay phone or your cell phone, dial (585) 275-3333.

What is a simulcast?

A simulcast is a closed-circuit broadcast of an event in real time, in a different location than the event itself. We offer simulcasts of some of our most highly-attended events to be sure that all Meliora Weekend attendees have the opportunity to partake in the events of their choice.

When should I arrive to an event?

Seating at all events is limited. Please arrive at least 20 minutes early for all free events to minimize the possibility that venue seating will reach capacity before your arrival. We will make every effort to ensure that everyone who wishes to see a speaker is able to do so. Ticket holders who do not arrive within 10 minutes of show time may have their seats made available to those waiting in the no-ticket line.

Do I have to wear my name badge?

Yes, please be sure to wear your name badge at all times as it contains a unique identifier which grants you access to those events on your schedule and all free events as part of your weekend pass. Some events require prior fee payment.

Is childcare available?

The Children’s School at the University of Rochester Medical Center will provide a list of qualified (via New York State clearances) childcare providers to registrants with childcare needs during the weekend. Please note that childcare will be provided at Meliora Weekend sites, not at The Children’s School. The deadline for requests is September 12. There is limited availability, and childcare providers will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please email Angela Colt (Center Director) at or call 585.273.3677.

Is parking available?

River Campus parking is limited, especially when classes are in session on Friday, so we encourage you to take advantage of our shuttle service to and from campus lots. Shuttles will also be available to and from select hotels. If you plan to come to campus Thursday evening, parking is open where legal spaces are available.

Is transportation provided during the weekend?

We’ve got you covered! Shuttle service is provided to and from many Meliora Weekend hotels, as well as select off-campus events, hotels, and the River Campus. However, transportation is not available from the airport to River Campus. On the River Campus, staffed golf carts will be available for guests who need assistance.

Will there be photography at certain events?

During Meliora Weekend, staff photographers will be working at various events. Photos taken at these events may be used for marketing and advertising purposes in print, online, and in multimedia productions. If you do not wish to be photographed at an event, please contact a staff member in the event’s registration area.
