What is Meliora 2021?

Meliora 2021 is a modified approach to the traditional Meliora Weekend program. This year’s fun and festive in-person weekend is designed especially for the Class of 2020 and their families, current students and families, and the Class of 2021 who will be celebrating their first reunion!

We invite all Reunion alumni with class years ending in 0, 1, 5, or 6 to join us virtually.

President Sarah Mangelsdorf promised 2020 graduates an in-person commencement as soon as it was feasible. The 2020 Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 2 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre to honor all graduates who had degrees conferred in 2020. Actress Geena Davis is the commencement speaker.

When is Meliora 2021?

Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2.

How is this year different from past Meliora Weekends?

This year we’re planning a “right-sized” schedule of in-person events in response to the changing public health environment. Our focus is on the people who missed milestone moments like graduation during the pandemic. In addition, we will live stream signature programs for our alumni, parents, and friends to participate from wherever they are.

In 2022, we will resume traditional Meliora Weekend activities for the entire University community.

Who is invited on campus for events?

We are pleased to welcome fully vaccinated individuals from the following groups:

  • The class of 2020 and their families for commencement celebrations
  • The class of 2021 as the newest members of the alumni family
  • All current parents and families of undergraduate students in Arts, Sciences & Engineering and the Eastman School of Music
  • Current students

What is the policy regarding vaccinations for in-person attendees?

The University of Rochester is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all event guests. The continued health and safety of our campus community—including our visitors—is paramount. As such, we will follow all University, CDC, and New York State health and safety guidelines during Meliora 2021.

The University is requiring guests attending Meliora 2021 to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is in alignment with our current policy for students, faculty, and staff. All guests will be required to wear masks at indoor events throughout the weekend. The Meliora 2021 policy is subject to change based on changes in law or University policy.

We encourage you to consider whether your plans can be flexible before you register for the event. While there are no costs to register Meliora 2021, the University is not responsible for any personal plans or travel costs that may result from changes to these policies.

How will you verify vaccination status?

Upon registration you will be asked to attest to your status. The University will request to see proof of vaccination when you arrive on campus. Acceptable forms of documentation include the NY State Excelsior Pass, a valid CDC-issued vaccination card, or CLEAR digital vaccine card.

Will I have to wear a mask?

Current University guidelines on masking and other COVID-19 safety protocols can be found here.

What kinds of events are taking place?

In 2021, the schedule includes a commencement celebration for the Class of 2020 and their families, events for the class of 2021 as the newest members of the alumni community, performances, activities for current students, parents and families, panel discussions, and more. Many events will be held outdoors.
