Carl A. Steinbrenner has been named director of purchasing at the University of Rochester. He will oversee purchasing and distribution of goods and services for the entire University, including Strong Memorial Hospital. He also will serve as the University's contract specialist and consultant and will be responsible for negotiating contracts for goods and services. He will also oversee disposal of surplus equipment.
Before joining the University, Steinbrenner was legal counsel for Bausch & Lomb, Inc., where his legal responsibilities included purchasing, engineering, environment and safety, and management and information systems at the corporate level.
Currently a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association and the New York, Illinois, and Monroe County Bar Associations, Steinbrenner holds a law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School. He is also a 1977 graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor's degree in political science.
From 1980 to 1985, he was employed by Owens-Illinois, Inc. of Toledo, Ohio, as counsel to finance, purchasing, transportation, and corporate operations. He joined Bausch & Lomb in Rochester in 1985.
