We received a letter from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) that it will investigate a University of Rochester student’s complaint about the way that the university handled her charge of sexual assault. When OCR receives such a complaint, it undertakes a broader, comprehensive review of a university’s handling of sexual misconduct complaints for a period of years.

Thinking alike changes how we speak

As social creatures, we tend to mimic each other’s posture, laughter, and other behaviors, including how we speak. Now a new study from brain and cognitive sciences researchers shows that people with similar views tend to more closely mirror, or align, each other’s speech patterns. In addition, people who are better at compromising align more closely.

Danny Wegman

The University Board of Trustees elected Rochester business and civic leader Danny Wegman as board chairman-elect at its May meeting, to begin a five-year term following the May 2016 Board meeting. Wegman, CEO of Rochester-based Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., has served as a University trustee for more than 15 years.
