In this final spending bill, Congress rejected many of the cuts and program eliminations proposed by the Administration in its FY18 budget request and instead provided increases to federal investments in scientific research, education, student aid, and healthcare programs.

Sandra Cannon to become University’s first chief data officer
Cannon will collaborate with IT leaders and , data officers for initiatives in eight key data domains—finance, human resources, student, research, faculty, clinical, facilities, and alumni & advancement. Her appointment begins July 1.

Donald Hall selected as Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences & Engineering
As dean of the faculty of AS&E, Hall will be responsible for academic, administrative, and financial aspects of School of Arts & Sciences, the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, and the undergraduate College. Interim Dean of Faculty Richard Waugh will rejoin the Office of the Provost as vice provost for research.

The 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings list the University of Rochester at number 51 among U.S. universities—public or private—and number 153 among more than 1,100 researcher universities worldwide.
University announces tuition, financial aid increases for 2018-19
Tuition for University of Rochester undergraduates in the College will increase by 3.7 percent to $52,974 for the 2018-19 academic year, and financial aid will rise 5.7 percent over the current year to $137 million. Room and board will increase 3.5 percent to $15,862. Tuition for the Eastman School of Music will also increase by 3.7 percent to $53,340.
