Award recipients are invited to Rochester to be recognized at the University’s Commencement ceremony, and receive cash prizes for themselves and their schools.

Fourteen undergraduate students were selected as new Take Five Scholars, a unique Rochester program that allows students to take a tuition-free fifth year of study in a field outside their major.

After being eliminated in the regionals, four international students have been chosen as wild cards for the Hult Prize, the largest social entrepreneurship competition in the world, with a reward of $1 million seed money.

“All of these capstone projects were completed, had successful launches, and will live on after their creators graduate,” said Michael Jarvis, director of the Digital Media Studies Program.

Established in 2002, the center has the goal of increasing diversity in higher education by building an educational pipeline, from undergraduate through graduate school, for students who might not otherwise have had access to higher education.

Students in this class spend two months developing a technical product that could potentially be deployed in the wider world, with the goal of using computing to solve pressing problems in society.

One of the newer Senior Week traditions is cap decorating in Hirst Lounge. Stickers, glue, glitter and other crafty supplies are provided by Wilson Commons Student Activities; students add creativity, sentimentality, and humor to taste.

In their senior capstone projects, students take on original research on topics as varied as housing policy in South Africa and campaign spending in the United States.

Through the Program of Dance and Movement, Caitlyn Gilmore ’17 says "I was able to explore this creative side that I had previously left untouched."

The last time our entire class came together was in August of our freshman year for convocation. Now, four years later, we will all come together one last time in May for our commencement.

Three faculty members have been named Students’ Association Government’s Professor of the Year in their respective fields of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and engineering.
