Sam Gemar will be coming to campus to give a brief public lecture about the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) and his time with NASA. He will also present William Green ’16 with a $10,000 scholarship on behalf of ASF.

Spirit of old Vienna returns at 29th annual Viennese Ball
Sponsored by the University of Rochester’s Ballroom Dancing Club, the event will include a string quartet of Eastman School musicians, a local Rochester dance troupe, and the Argentinian tango club.

Brass Choir presents ‘Spooktacular VI – Things that Go Bump in the Night’
The performance will feature works by Bruno Mars, Avicii, Queen, and Blue Oyster Cult. Costumes are optional; the audience will be treated to special effects and a party atmosphere worthy of the Halloween season.

UR fall concert series features Vic Mensa and Asher Roth
Chicago native Vic Mensa is an independent rap artist who recently began a solo career after the breakup of his rap-rock band Kids These Days. Asher Roth is best known for his hit single “I Love College”, which reached number 12 on the US Billboard Music Charts.

Comedians Ron Funches, Nick Vatterott, and Michael Ian Black will perform this weekend for students and the Rochester community as part of Yellowjacket Weekend, which celebrates the start of the academic year.

College freshmen meet Rochester on #WilsonDay14
The incoming freshmen class will discover what Rochester has to offer and explore the many ways to get involved in their surrounding neighborhood during the 26th annual Wilson Day on Thursday, Aug. 28. Over 1,350 students will garden, paint, meet with senior citizens, help organize school supplies, and learn more about their new community.

University of Rochester welcomes Class of 2018
More than 1,300 freshmen from more than 75 countries will move in to the River Campus and Eastman School of Music beginning Monday, Aug. 25. Move-in Day is an event featuring a cappella singing groups, the University Pep Band, and other student groups entertaining and welcoming the new class to their new home in Rochester.

University ranked among top ten ‘Best Colleges for Food’
The University’s dining services has been ranked 6th on the 2014 list of 75 Best Colleges for Food by the online publication The Daily Meal. In addition to the quality of the food, the rankings were determined by the “food scene of the surrounding area,” as well as nutrition, sustainability, accessibility, events, uniqueness, and “the overall quality of the dining experience.”
