A biomedical engineering major and first-generation student, Kharimat Alatise ’19 is ready to pursue her doctorate and “be a role model to first-generation and minority students.”

The Albany, New York native is the first Rochester student or alumnus to receive this fellowship, which supports outstanding individuals interested in careers in foreign service.

From a University record 27 semifinalists, 13 students and recent alumni were offered 2019-20 grants in the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Grant program.

The University’s newest inductees into the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society include 118 seniors and 16 juniors.

“One of the reasons we wanted to have events like this and to celebrate research is that it really is the epitome of the undergraduate educational experience,” said University President Richard Feldman.

Doctoral student Clara Auclair, who works as a digitization specialist in River Campus Libraries, and Cameron Morgan ’19 (T5), a public speaking fellow in the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program were honored during National Student Employment Week.

This year, nineteen individuals and three groups will be honored during the College’s annual Student Life Awards, also known as “the Rockys.” The 2019 dinner and awards ceremony takes place Thursday, April 18.

Assistant professor Paula Doyle has gone from a Paris fashion house to the rain forests of Papua New Guinea to the operating room, where a challenging robotic surgery led to the invention of a novel surgical “flashlight.”

The Gwen M. Greene Center for Career Education and Connections presented its third annual awards to partners and individuals who exemplify the career center’s values.
