Message on Diversity Engagement Survey

The University of Rochester strives to be a community that welcomes, encourages, and supports all of its faculty, trainees, staff, and students.

The work of our Presidential Commission on Race and Diversity and the feedback I’ve heard at our town hall meetings on race and diversity are providing critical insight into the areas of University life where individuals are not feeling this support and inclusivity, and how we can make important changes for the better.

Next week, we will launch the first ever University-wide Diversity Engagement Survey. This survey will assess how included and valued our community members feel working and studying here.  The results will help us identify our areas of strength and those areas that need improvement.

Your voice, your experience and your opinions are very important to us.

This survey will take about 10 minutes to complete online. Participants will receive an email with instructions on Feb. 16. We are asking that the survey be completed by March 18.

The survey is confidential.  It will be administered by Datastar, a national provider of survey management. The actual survey and instructions will come by email from Datastar will manage all results and feedback will be reported back to the University in a group format and will not contain information that would permit individuals to be identified.

You have likely already seen or received communications about the Diversity Engagement Survey in recent days and the importance of your participation.  In addition to faculty, staff, and trainees, students in the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing and Eastman Institute of Oral Health, the Warner School of Education, and the Simon School of Business are invited to take the survey.

A separate survey assessing diversity engagement among our students in Arts, Sciences and Engineering and in the Eastman School of Music is underway as part of the Presidential Commission on Race and Diversity. By administering both surveys, for the first time ever all of our employees, faculty, trainees and students will be able to share their views on the climate of diversity and inclusiveness on our campuses.

The Diversity Engagement Survey is being led by the University’s Office of Faculty Development and Diversity, the Office of Human Resources, and the Medical Center Office of Inclusion and Culture Development.
