This course is an introduction to acoustical waves. Topics include acoustic wave equation; plane, spherical, and cylindrical waves; reflection, transmission, and refraction at boundaries; normal modes; absorption and dispersion; radiation from points, spheres, cylinders, pistons, and arrays; diffraction; nonlinear acoustics. Prerequisites: MTH 164 and PHY 121.
