The University of Rochester’s Susan B. Anthony Center is instrumental in starting an academic journal for best practices and scientific research on combating gender-based violence in South Asia.

While existing technology for detecting bruises works well for light-skinned victims, it’s less effective for people of color. An interdisciplinary team at the University of Rochester has set out to change that.

In marking this year's them, "Investing in Teenage Girls," Catherine Cerulli, director of the Susan B. Anthony Center, offers her insights on the human rights issues that young women face today and what can be done to address these challenges.

“Instead of thinking about the effects of intimate partner violence in an isolated kind of way, we need to look at it across the lifespan and across the developmental stages,” says keynote speaker Dr. Tasneem Ismailji.

While much is known about the famed suffragist’s stance on social equality and slavery, Susan B. Anthony also had lots to say on a variety of issues that still resonate today.

A significant pay gap still exists between men and women on a national scale. In order to help raise awareness of this issue, the Susan B. Anthony Center has partnered with the Coalition on Pay Equity (or COPE) to survey this inequality in the Rochester area.
