University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Thursday, October 6, for Susan Gibson, a senior medical records coder in radiology billing, who died on September 11. Gibson joined the University staff in 1995.

If you are sexually active, sign up for an appointment at one of the UHS Health Promotion Office’s free STI testing clinics throughout the semester. These testing clinics are only open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Applications for the Program for Advanced Immune Bioimaging pilot projects
The Program for Advanced Immune Bioimaging is accepting pilot project applications to support a broad range of research projects and pilot studies to address key gaps in the understanding of the cellular dynamics of inflammatory disease and the regulation of immune function. Attend Centennial concerts at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, this weekend.
The Prism Concert: “Centennial Rhapsody” takes place Friday, September 30, at 8 p.m. The music of George Gershwin will be performed throughout the theater by Eastman Wind Ensemble, Eastman Chorale, Eastman New Jazz Ensemble, Eastman Saxophone Projects, and Eastman faculty including professor Marina Lomazov ‘93E, ’00E (DMA), a featured pianist in Rhapsody in Blue. Tickets are free but required.
The Rochester premiere of The Brightness of Light written by Kevin Puts’ ‘94E, ‘99E (DMA) takes place Saturday, October 1, at 7:30 p.m. The performance features the Eastman Philharmonia, soprano Nicole Cabell ‘01E, and baritone Rod Gilfry, with text from the letters of Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz. Tickets are $10.
GameDay Football Challenge promotes waste reduction
During the Yellowjackets’ Meliora Weekend football game on Saturday, October 1, the University will compete in the GameDay Football Challenge, a friendly, nationwide competition to promote waste reduction during college football games. Efforts will be made to recycle and compost with “Zero Waste Rangers” standing by to help sort the waste. Rochester won this challenge in 2018 and is bringing it back for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
Art New York exhibition
Frontispace, located at the entrance of the Art and Music Library, is hosting an exhibition of work created by University students who participated in the Art New York program in spring 2022. The exhibition represents the culmination of the time the students spent living, working, studying, and producing art in New York City and runs through October 5.
Nominations open for annual diversity awards
The Institutional Office of Equity and Inclusion is accepting nominations for the Presidential Stronger as One Diversity Awards. Nomination categories include University faculty, staff, students, members of the Board of Trustees, and Rochester community organizations.
Masking when around other people indoors is strongly encouraged, especially for those who are at increased risk of severe illness if they become infected. Patient care areas, as well as University shuttles and transportation, continue to require masking.
