Ravi Shankar, assistant vice provost for international services and support, has been named interim vice provost for global engagement. He will assume the interim role in late October when Jane Gatewood steps down for a position at Emory University.

Shankar joined the University in 2019, contributing to his over 30 years of experience in international education. Before coming to Rochester, he served as the director of the Office of International Student and Scholar Services at Northwestern University. Shankar has served in several leadership roles with NAFSA: Association of International Educators, including as the president and chair of the board from January 2019–December 2020. He is currently serving on the Public Policy Committee of the Association of International Education Administration.

“Ravi Shankar is an exemplary colleague and a well-respected leader in the field of international education,” says Interim Provost Nicole Sampson. “I am grateful to him for accepting this important interim position and for his expert guidance as we continue to grow our global reputation and serve the needs of our international students.”
