17th annual E-Cycle Day brings in over eight tons of electronics

This year’s E-Cycle Day collected a total of 16,641 pounds—or 8.3 tons—of electronic equipment that was securely recycled. The event is made possible through a partnership between University Facilities and Services and Sunnking. Learn more about E-Cycle Day and explore pictures from this year’s event.

Yoga classes

Maintain your physical and spiritual health as the temperature drops by taking a moment to breathe and stretch. Yoga classes continue every day throughout the fall semester in the Leibner-Cooper Room at the Goergen Athletic Center. Classes are hosted by the Mindful University Project and Yoga Vibe’s experienced yoga teachers. Check the schedules and register for classes here, or just drop in.

Presentation from the Rochester Kink Society

The Burgett Intercultural Center and the UHS Health Promotion Office are hosting a presentation and Q&A from the Rochester Kink Society about the basics of BDSM and how to safely enjoy different kinks. The event will be held in person on Tuesday, November 12, at 6:30 p.m. in Morey Hall, Room 321, and will also be streamed live if you’d like to attend virtually. Registration is encouraged, but not required. The event is open to all students.

Did you know? myURHR is two systems—Workday and UKG

In just over a month, the University will have a new HR information system replacing HRMS, called myURHR. myURHR is comprised of two systems, UKG (used for time reporting functions) and Workday (used for HR information-related tasks, such as viewing payslips and updating personal information). The new system will go live on December 16.

Deadline for harassment and discrimination training

The deadline to complete the University’s annual training on how to identify and react to workplace harassment and discrimination is December 31. The training is an important component of efforts to address the damaging effects of harassment and discrimination and is required by state and federal law. New York State’s Sexual Harassment Prevention training is available in MyPath and will take approximately 30–45 minutes to complete. For more information and frequently asked questions about the training as well as additional opportunities for online and in-person training, visit the Office of Equity and Inclusion’s website.

EAP Supervisor Series session on leave administration

Join UR Medicine EAPWell-U, and Leave Administration to expand your knowledge of the Family Medical Leave Act, paid family leave, workers’ compensation, and short- and long-term disability on Wednesday, November 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Understand the eligibility requirements, employee responsibilities, and department responsibilities for each plan. The training is for those in a supervisory or managerial role only. Register here.

NSF Center for Matter at Atomic Pressures seminar

Join the NSF Center for Matter at Atomic Pressures for the seminar “Single-Shot Femtosecond X-Ray Measurements of the Temperature of Laser-Shocked Copper” with Justin Wark, the Principal Director of the Oxford Centre for High Energy Density Science at the University of Oxford. The seminar takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, November 8, in person at the Coliseum at Laboratory for Laser Energetics or via Zoom. Email Lori Morgan with questions or if you are a University employee who is not a US citizen and plans to attend in person.

School of Nursing graduate program open house

Explore master’s, advanced certificate, and doctoral program options at the School of Nursing during a virtual graduate program open house on Tuesday, November 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. Learn more and register here.

Learn healthy lifestyle changes with Promote HEALTH

Join others with similar health goals and learn how small changes can add up to make a big difference in improving your overall health and well-being. Promote HEALTH, a free eight-week program provided in partnership between the Center for Community Health & Prevention and Wilmot Cancer Institute is being offered virtually in December. Choose from two available options starting at noon on Monday, December 2, or 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 5. Email Katie Bauer to sign up.

Research study on HIV prevention and treatment

Health care providers who have worked in HIV prevention and treatment, multidisciplinary researchers (e.g., HIV policy, sociology, epidemiology), policymakers who are involved in HIV policy development, and members from the University community interested in topics related to HIV prevention and treatment are needed for a research study called the “Structural Racism Study” being conducted through the School of Nursing. Participants will receive compensation for their time and insights. Interviews and discussions can be conducted via phone, Zoom, or in person, based on your preference and convenience.
