URDU travels to Portland, wins the Oregon State Penitentiary Toastmasters 2024 Debates
This past weekend UR Debate traveled across country to Portland, Oregon for two debate tournaments: the Steve Hunt Classic at Lewis and Clark College and the affiliated Oregon State Penitentiary Toastmasters 2024 Debates.
In URDU’s first time participating in a formal tournament in a correctional facility, Charles Ndlovu and Faith Liu ended up taking the top spot at the event after debating against both teams from other universities and from the prison. The win was also a collective effort thanks to great research by Nicole Martinez and Monica Resendez.
The URDU looks forward to continuing and expanding our own work teaching and facilitating debate in local prisons in the coming months!
