URDU braves sleet and snow to compete at the University of Vermont Huber Debates
The bus full of URDU debaters pulled back into campus around 1am on Monday morning after an eventful weekend in Burlington, VT.

New members Caroline, Robbie, Arabella, and Rae got to have their first experiences with debate this weekend - always a special tournament. With established and brand-new teams earning top recognitions during the weekend, the occasionally inclement weather was well worth it!
Perhaps the biggest highlight of the weekend was the team of Ezrin Katz Saltzman and Robbie Cahili reaching Rookie Finals as one of the top teams in their first year of debate. Congrats to them on an amazing performance! URDUers Nicole Martinez and Erin Kent, relatively new to BP debate, got to serve as chair judges for the first time this weekend, a great accomplishment.
Just as our newer folks had a great experience in Vermont, so did the established URDU team of Faith Liu and Carter Schmitt, who finished prelims as the second seed at the tournament and ended as quarterfinalists in a close elimination loss. Faith was also recognized as 7th speaker out of over one hundred competitors, with Carter placing 11th. Carly Zubrzycki was also recognized as a top judge at the tournament.
Overall the URDU had a great time traveling to the green mountain state this weekend. We’ve got a lot of great memories to carry with us into the rest of this season!
