Phil Sennett started his career at the University of Rochester in the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations. He used his talents to support digital initiatives that celebrated the generosity of the University community and on projects that keep our alumni, parents, and friends plugged in.

In January 2020, Sennett transitioned to his current role in the Office of Communications. Alongside a top-notch team, he leads some of the University’s most vital and high-profile digital projects.

According to Sennett, it’s an exhilarating time to be a part of shaping the University’s virtual experience. His team strives to build digital communications for external and internal users that stand out among clutter while simultaneously focusing on accessibility and adaptive technologies like screen reader tools and voice dictation services. When asked about the most rewarding aspect of his job, Sennett observes, “I have the chance to create a digital space that’s open and welcoming to all.”

As a kid growing up in Rochester, Sennett aspired to be an astronaut or top-secret spy. While the University isn’t NASA or the CIA, Sennett’s career has allowed him to wear several hats: from designer, developer, writer, to task manager. “I can honestly say that young Phil would find my current profession fascinating.”

Sennett brought his magic to the board of the Emerging Leaders in 2019 and has been the driving force behind the group’s updated website and monthly e-newsletter. Sennett exemplifies our collective Meliora values and is “passionate about showcasing the world-renowned research, music, science, and medicine that our organization contributes to humankind.”
