Nursing Student Brings
a World of Experience
Brad Forsythe ’12N
Student, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program
As a graduate of University of Rhode Island
who studied Animal and Veterinary Science,
Brad Forsythe’s decision to go into nursing
was a culmination of experiences, the
most poignant of which he still thinks of
today. “During my fourth year of service
in Afghanistan, I helped a young Afghan
bystander who was shot by insurgents,” he
says. “The experience inspired me to want
to help others, especially children, in their
greatest time of need.”
After completing five years of Army service as
an infantry team leader, Forsythe enrolled in
the School’s Accelerated Program for Non-
Nurses with the goal of becoming a pediatric
nurse. “I chose the School of Nursing because
of its strong reputation, amazing faculty,
commitment to quality health care, and
service in a community I grew up in,”
Forsythe says.
Forsythe was a recipient of both the
Davenport-Hatch Foundation Scholarship and
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New
Careers in Nursing Scholarship program,
which supports the enrollment of students
from diverse backgrounds.
“I am so grateful for the opportunities that the
scholarships have afforded me,” he says.
