Digital media team reaches round of 32 in Student Startup Madness tournament
A company run by four seniors has reached the final 32 of Student Startup Madness, a national collegiate competition for digital media startups. More than 100 teams applied.
The company is called “thinc.” and features a website that displays the front pages of college newspapers across the country.

Rochester graduate chosen for inaugural class of China-based Schwarzman Scholars program
Jintian “Jay” Li, a 2012 University of Rochester graduate, is part of the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars, established “to prepare the next generation of global leaders.”

Students demand better racial climate at the University
About 150 students and supporters marched peacefully across the River Campus on Friday to demand that “the University of Rochester’s administration implement immediate and lasting changes that will reduce intolerable acts of racism that students of color endure at our University.”

Supporting veterans at Rochester
Many veteran students and their families face unique challenges when navigating both the educational and governmental systems. The University’s Veterans Alliance and Veteran and Military Family Services Office work to provide the support that veteran students, staff, faculty, and families need.

Nearly 1,300 freshmen forming the Class of 2019 moved in to their new homes on the University’s River Campus and Eastman School of Music this week. The incoming class comes from 47 states and 83 countries. At both Eastman and River Campus, current students were on hand to welcome and assist their new classmates as they got their first taste of their new home. Welcome to Rochester, Class of 2019!

19 African students learn college ropes this summer
Nineteen high school students from Africa are staying on the River Campus through Aug. 7 as part of a pre-orientation program designed to prepare them for college this fall. Three will continue their education at the University of Rochester this fall.
