Two high school seniors have been designated as Scholars in the prestigious Regeneron Science Talent Search for research they carried out last summer at the University’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics.

In an effort to understand how to initiate change in a community, students in an Arts and Activism course, and their counterparts in an Environmental Health and Justice course, met up in Rochester dance studio to create some new moves.

The Department of Public Safety is leading its fourth Holiday Purple Box campaign to help families displaced because of domestic violence. Donations of new items are being accepted through December 3.

Now in its third year, the Community Engagement Challenge encourages student organizations to propose a charitable outreach program that benefits the greater Rochester community.

They set up school classrooms, played with children, cleaned senior living centers, served meals, and performed yardwork at more than 80 organizations around Rochester as part of the annual day of service for first-year students.

More than 1,300 incoming students will fan out to about 90 Rochester schools, libraries, senior centers, neighborhood associations, and more to paint, stack bookshelves, rake, pull weeds, and begin to get involved in their new community.

Dining Services is now one of a few college and university dining programs nationwide to embrace a fresh, customized “food first” philosophy through a new partnership with Harvest Table Culinary Group.

For the past decade, more than 100 graduates of Rochester-area colleges have spent their first year out of school working to alleviate poverty in the local community through the University’s Rochester Youth Year program.
