The six-day celebration of dance, which is open to the public, will feature 25 classes taught by guest artists and faculty, including award–winning choreographer, Jane Comfort.

The New York City-based dance company’s work explores contemporary views of intimacy and truth telling, such as the need for safety, longing to connect, and the desire to be seen.

The institute will serve as a center for performance programs on the River Campus, aiming to further inspire students with or without prior training or experience to explore a variety of aesthetic art forms and opportunities. The institute will strengthen the relationships among the College, the Eastman School of Music, and the Memorial Art Gallery.

University students, faculty, and staff will celebrate Day of the Arts 2015: Silence,which includes five events centered on the question “What is Silence?” This two-day series starting on Wednesday, April 8, explores movement, dance, art, and music.

The Department of English has named N’jelle Gage and Guy Thorne of FuturPointe Dance the recipients of the 2014 Lillian Fairchild Memorial Award.

From contemporary to ballet, hip-hop to tango, more than 30 performances, master classes and workshops taught by guest artists and faculty will be available to the general public at the fifth annual inspireDANCE Festival, the University’s annual celebration of dance and community.

Sponsored by the University of Rochester’s Ballroom Dancing Club, the event will include a string quartet of Eastman School musicians, a local Rochester dance troupe, and the Argentinian tango club.

The University is a sponsor and major participant in the 2014 First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival, taking place Sept. 18–27 in Rochester’s East End. Students, faculty, and alumni will perform in more than 40 shows during the 10-day city arts fest.

Students, faculty, and staff will gather together to celebrate Day of the Arts 2014: Street Art on Friday, April 11. This two-day series will showcase movement, dance, and art executed outside of traditional art venues.

The InspireDANCE festival has expanded rapidly in just four years, adding a sixth day and attracting nationally acclaimed choreographers and dancers.
