Researchers at the University of Rochester have now teamed up to study and improve technology that can show a bruising much faster on victims of domestic violence.

The "Votetilla," a week-long floating theater of canal boats ferrying reenactors of key suffragists such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton along the Eric Canal, was a multi-agency creative partnership that included the Susan B. Anthony Center (SBAC).

While existing technology for detecting bruises works well for light-skinned victims, it’s less effective for people of color. An interdisciplinary team at the University of Rochester has set out to change that.

Sunshine, cheery faces, and colorful attire were on full display at this weekend's Pride Parade, with the University represented by the Susan B. Anthony Center and a contingent of students, staff, and friends. The parade was the culmination of the week-long ROC Pridefest, sponsored by Rochester's Gay Alliance—an organization with roots going back to the creation of the Rochester Gay Liberation Front, founded by two Rochester students in 1970.

Panelists will discuss how the pay gap continues to affect gender and labor dynamics, and address how members of the University community can work to combat inequity.

Save the date for this year's ceremony, Saturday, February 4. Eight undergraduates will be saluted for their contributions to the University and local community, and this year's Frederick Douglass Medal will also be presented to community leader Connie Mitchell.

Constance (Connie) Mitchell, one of Rochester history’s most influential social, civic, political and industrial activists, is being recognized for outstanding civic engagement at this year's Susan B. Anthony Legacy Awards Celebration brunch on Feb. 4.
