Rochester is annually recognized as a Best College for Veterans for its efforts to ensure service members can access the benefits of higher education. Meet a few of the current University students who have served in our nation’s armed forces.

Rochester is currently ranked 13th by US News and World Report in its list of best colleges for veterans. As Veterans Day approaches, six University students from each of the branches of the armed services share their stories of moving from the military to the classroom.

Created in 2013, the group is open to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are active duty military or veterans, and provides events and resources throughout the year. This Veterans Day weekend, the group will host the annual Military Appreciation Football Game.

Many veteran students and their families face unique challenges when navigating both the educational and governmental systems. The University’s Veterans Alliance and Veteran and Military Family Services Office work to provide the support that veteran students, staff, faculty, and families need.

Financial economics major Mark Constable ’16 is one of more than 80 military veterans currently enrolled as students at the University. This Veterans Day, we recognize and honor the commitment of our students, faculty, and staff who serve or have served in our nation’s armed services, and share just a few of their stories.

There has been a 50% increase in the number of veteran students enrolled at the University since 2010. To better serve those students, and the family members of veterans, the University will celebrate the opening of the new Veteran and Military Family Services Office this Veterans Day.
