1954
Gene (MD) and Linda Fabry
Farley ’51RC, ’55 (MD), ’70 (Res), emeritus faculty
at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, led a discussion on universal
health insurance in Manitowoc, Wis., last September.
1967
William Munson (Res), ’68 (Flw), an endocrinologist,
was interviewed last August in the Colorado Springs Business Journal,
where he discussed the need for more endocrinologists. He has worked at the
Colorado Springs Endocrine Clinic since 1972.
1969
Karen Hitchcock (PhD) was named to CardioMag Imaging’s
board of directors.
1970
Linda Fabry Farley (Res) (see ’54).
1972
Ruby Sturgis Belton (see ’04).
1979
Carl Patow (MD), executive director of the HealthPartners
Institute for Medical Education, was awarded a Bush Foundation Medical Fellowship
to pioneer reform of graduate medical education in Minnesota.
1982
Craig Smith (Res), chief of cardiothoracic surgery
at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, was the lead surgeon for the medical
team that performed former President Bill Clinton’s heart bypass surgery
last September.
1984
John Fung (Res) is chair of general surgery at
the Cleveland Clinic. Previously, he was transplant chief at the University
of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
1986
Steve Gilbert (PhD) (see ’73RC undergraduate).
1988
Wendy Weitzman Cohen (MS) (see ’87RC undergraduate).
1989
Mark Kimmel (Flw) has been appointed medical director
of the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center in Connecticut.
1994
Air Force Maj. Steven Pflanz (MD) was elected
vice president of the Academy of Organizational and Occupational Psychiatry
and was appointed chair of the American Psychiatric Association’s Committee
on Psychiatry in the Workplace. He currently is assigned to McGuire Air Force
Base in New Jersey.
1996
Yvonne Murphy (MD) and Walter Wojcik were married
on September 12. Yvonne teaches and practices family medicine, and Walter practices
neurology, at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Ill.
1997
Kelly Goonan (MPH) writes, “I have been promoted. My new title is associate
director of quality of care at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Previously, I was program manager of evidence-based medicine. I live in Greensboro,
N.C.”
1998
Joseph Bliss (PhD), (MD) joined Memorial Hospital
of Rhode Island in the pediatrics department. He specializes in neonatology.
1999
Shahin Shahgoli (Pdc) joined the Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery Centers in Marion, Ohio, as an oral surgeon.
2000
Vidya Jayawardena (Res), staff physician at the
spinal cord injury unit at the Hunter Holmes McGuire V. A. Medical Center in
Richmond, Va., and assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University,
received the 2004 Ernest Bors Award for Scientific Development, given by the
American Paraplegia Society. . . . Ann Marsh (MD)
is an emergency department physician at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and Providence
Hospital in Michigan.
2002
Juan Cordero (Res) is a cardiothoracic surgeon
at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Previously, Juan was an attending
cardiothoracic surgeon in Phoenix.
2004
Douglas Belton (MD) was profiled in the Rochester
Democrat and Chronicle last May. He is the son of Ruby
Sturgis Belton ’72 (MD), the first African-American female graduate
of the School of Medicine and Dentistry.
