PEN: Workshop: De-Gentrify New York and Give Her Back to the World

Where: Old School, 233 Mott St., New York City

Joined by two festival participants, three classic New York artists who love their city, bring their hearts and minds together to ask the question: What are the five necessary steps to de-gentrify New York? How do we overcome the crippling homogeneity that has turned parts of our historically dynamic urban mix of poets, immigrants, and revolutionary immigrant poets into destination drinking zones for investment bankers. Audience members are invited to present their lists as well, as a vigorous conversation will then ensue. Come one, come all and start giving New York back to the world.

Introductory notes: Samuel R. Delany, Jonas Hassan Khemiri, and Reno; curated by Sarah Schulman

Open to PEN Members, Festival authors, heads of cultural agencies, and press. RSVP to jessica@pen.org by April 22. Limited space. Please register early.
