HIGHLAND HOSPITAL
• Funds for our programs helped Highland achieve
rankings as one of the top hospitals in New York State
and the region. For example, U.S. News & World
Report recognized Highland as a “Best Regional
Hospital,” a designation earned by less than 10 percent
of nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide.
• Facilities support helped begin a $28 million, 30,000
square-foot expansion project. The new space includes
a 26-bed observation unit and six new operating rooms.
It also puts Highland in a better position to continue
offering excellence in patient-centered care for the
Rochester community.
$1.4 Million • Annual funds also benefited new protocols and
Pledged physical changes in the Wolk Emergency Department
to meet the unique needs of the elderly population.
Improvements include streamlined care for conditions
such as pneumonia and hip fractures, enhanced
geriatric-specific training, and six newly designed
senior-friendly patient rooms.
THOMPSON HEALTH
• Support for our programs, technology, and facilities
helped improve the health of the residents and
communities of the Finger Lakes and the
surrounding region.
• More than 330,000 patients received critical health care
services, including expert emergency care, urgent care,
surgical care, rehabilitation and diagnostic services, and
senior living support.
• The Emergency Department received a dedicated CT
scanner, which ensures patients experiencing life-
threatening emergencies, such as stroke, can receive an
immediate diagnosis, 24 hours a day.
$159,000 • A new, 12-bed observation unit opened in 2017. The
Pledged unit is designed to provide high-quality, personalized
care for patients who require evaluation and treatment
for a period of time between eight and twenty-four
hours, allowing the hospital to reserve inpatient and
Emergency Department beds for those patients with
greater acuity.
