WHO: The University of Rochester YellowJackets annual spring show will benefit a student at World of Inquiry and member of the school's a cappella group who is currently fighting cancer.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre (60 Gibbs Street, Rochester).
WHAT: The YellowJackets will share the stage with Howard University a cappella group Afro Blue and The Sing-Off season two champions Committed. The concert will feature songs heard on the hit reality television show, classic tunes from the YellowJackets traditional repertoire, and several new numbers.
Also joining the YellowJackets on stage is the World of Inquiry's after-school a cappella group. The group was created in a partnership between the YellowJackets and the World of Inquiry. Throughout the academic year, members of the YellowJackets met weekly with a group of nearly 100 students, helping them learn singing techniques and introducing them to a cappella arrangements of popular songs heard on the radio.
A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit Sammy Parker, an 11-year-old student from the World of Inquiry School and member of the ROCappella. Parker is fighting a rare form of cancer, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST). Funds raised through the concert will help Parker achieve an item on his "bucket list," swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean, and will also help alleviate the cost of Parker's health care needs.
