Construction begins on new Laser Lab expansion
The University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics has broken ground on a new $42 million, 66,000-square-foot expansion to house office and lab space.
Construction on Sloan Performing Arts Center to begin in November
Construction is scheduled to begin in November on the Sloan Performing Arts Center, a 29,000-square-foot facility on the River Campus that will provide new space for theatrical programs, dance programs, concerts, and other activities.
Eastman Community Music School to undergo major renovations
The $2.8 million renovation of the school’s home in Messinger Hall, will enhance the educational experience for over 1,500 area music students.
New undergraduate residence to be Genesee Hall
River Campus’ newest residence hall, which will overlook the Genesee River from its east side, will also bear its name. Scheduled to open this fall, Genesee Hall will feature housing for approximately 150 freshmen, as well as meeting rooms, a new locker room facility, and training rooms for athletic programs.
Highland Hospital celebrates new addition
University and hospital officials cut the ribbon on Highland Hospital’s new two-story building addition. The $28 million expansion includes six new operating rooms and a 26-bed observation unit, and will see its first patients starting on November 1.

River Campus construction update
This summer has been one of the most active construction periods of all time on River Campus. Multiple new facilities and improvement projects are wrapping up, while others are still in progress. With the new academic year starting this week, here is an update on many of the bigger projects on River Campus and what is soon reopening.
Restoring a River Campus original
This summer, a team of experts, engineers, and facilities crew worked together to painstakingly restore 90 panels of stained glass originally designed in 1928 for Strong Auditorium.
Building bridges
