April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to end it. The University’s Title IX Office is hosting a number of SAAM events throughout the month to bring awareness to the issue of sexual assault and inform the community of the resources available to everyone, which include learning skills to prevent sexual misconduct and to engage our campus community to create consent culture.

National Denim Day – Wear jeans
As the longest-running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history, Denim Day encourages everyone to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on Wednesday, April 29th as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that continue to surround sexual violence.
The Denim Day campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove them, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
