Annual training covering Title IX and sexual misconduct topics is required for all first-year students, student leaders, and student athletes. New employees also must complete Title IX training during the onboarding process.
New Students
All first-year undergraduate, graduate, professional, and transfer students at the University are required to complete comprehensive online student onboarding to educate about domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault, in compliance with applicable federal laws, including the Clery Act as amended by the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization of 2013, 20 U.S.C. 1092(f) and New York State Education Law Article 129-B. Additionally, this online training module covers other important topics such as:
- Bystander intervention and the importance of taking action to prevent violence when one can safely do so;
- The role of the Title IX Coordinator;
- Relevant definitions, including but not limited to, the definitions of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, confidentiality, privacy, and consent;
- How to report sexual violence, and
- Consequences and sanctions for individuals who commit these crimes and code of conduct violations.
This training is administered online from Title IX staff utilizing Blackboard and is issued each academic semester to all new students.
New Students who do not complete this training by the due date will result in a ‘Title IX Training’ hold placed onto the student’s account, which prohibits them from registering for courses.
Student Athletes and Student Leaders
In compliance with the New York State Education Law Article 129-B, all University of Rochester Student Athletes, Student Leaders and officers of student organizations are required to complete training on domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or sexual assault prevention, which is administered online from Title IX staff in Blackboard and are required each academic calendar year.
Student Leaders who do not complete their training by the due date are prohibited from registering events or reserving event space on campus.
Student Athletes who do not complete their training by the due date are prohibited from competing in matches, competitions, or practices.
