UR/Paychex Leadership Institute
From Vision to Action - Learning to Lead With Purpose
About the Annual UR/Paychex Leadership Institute
The UR/Paychex Leadership Institute is an annual leadership conference, which aims to enhance the leadership capabilities of undergraduate students through skill-based workshops and discussions surrounding leadership issues. In addition to further developing their leadership capabilities and gaining new knowledge, students attending the Leadership Institute have an opportunity to network with peers, presenters, and other dignitaries in attendance.
Over the last 20 years, the UR/Paychex Leadership Institute has been hosted by Paychex Inc., a fortune 500 company founded in Rochester by entrepreneur and philanthropist Thomas Golisano.
Every year undergraduate students are nominated by College faculty, staff, and administrators during the fall semester. Of those nominated, approximately 100 undergraduate students are selected to participate in a day of interactive workshops, led by the Paychex Inc. Training Staff, Senior University Administrators, and Community Educators. Students are selected to participate based on their community engagement both on and off-campus; many participants do not hold elected leadership positions at the time of the Institute.
Previous participants describe the UR/Paychex Leadership Institute as:
- "Just a fun, positive experience"
- "Excellent topics, excellent presenters, and excellent presentations"
- "Engaging, very informative and useful; I will be able to apply what I have learned here in my life"

- Build Strategic Partnerships
- Recognize their Potential To Lead
- Cultivate a plan of action as they map out their future
- Translate their on-campus experiences into resume building experiences
The UR/Paychex Leadership Institute has benefited greatly from the support of its many on and off campus partners, including Thomas Golisano and the entire Paychex team.
