If you are seeking ways to volunteer and broaden diversity & inclusion in the workplace join us at Homesteads for Hope Community Farm on a chosen Monday or Wednesday from May 8th to October 25th. We are seeking group sizes of 5-8 people. Your team will have the opportunity to work side by side with our Ready! Set! Work! Apprentices, which allows those we serve with and without Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to enhance their individual skills training with new people "in the workplace." Your team will work to help plant, harvest, and clean the crops alongside the Apprentices and the Farmers. Volunteer days are from 9am-12pm and we do require closed toe shoes.

Tasks:
- Assist Youth and Family Specialists with facilitating each after-school program session (curriculum content includes: self-esteem; how to say no; stop, think, act; HIV/STDs; consequences of early pregnancy; identifying positive characteristics)
- Make phone calls to interested caregivers to recruit new students
- Prepare materials for each after-school session, such as organizing folders and making flyers and posters
Qualifications:
- Knowledge or experience with fine arts such as; theater, dance, music, art, and/or photography preferred
- Knowledge of peer counseling and peer mediation techniques and skills useful
- Ability to work well with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds in diverse settings

This is an independent living facility so residents are very mobile and can do much more. We do lots of crafting, exercise, religious based programs, and offer a program called Watermark University where you can teach an ongoing class on any topic you choose. InterVol is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting the world’s neediest to materials, people, and opportunities. By recovering and redistributing medical supplies and equipment, InterVol is able to further its mission to engage humanitarian efforts worldwide.
We reduce our carbon footprint by keeping usable medical supplies and equipment out of the landfill.
We collect unused medical supplies and equipment from area hospitals and individuals in the community. These supplies are then re-distributed to others in need all around the world. To date, we have shipped medical supplies to 84 countries.
Volunteers are needed to assist in the sorting, organizing and packaging of the medical donations. No medical experience is necessary! We are here to help and assist with the sorting.
Volunteers are invited to join InterVol anytime between the hours of 8:30-3:30 Monday thru Friday for as little as two hours at a time to as many hours as you would like to share. Opportunites to volunteer are ongoing.

The Hub585 has a variety of programs and services for youth in foster care, foster parents and biological families. One of our newest initiatives that has been implemented in June is our Life Launch Mentoring Program. We are seeking individuals that are 21 years old or older, who have good interpersonal skills, a giving heart, and are willing to collaborate with two other volunteer mentors, to create a group of two or more people to mentor one teen in foster care. As a mentor you will be tasked with facilitating activities with your mentee for three hours per month, for one year, and communicating with them weekly.

Description
Undermatching (Roderick et al) is a phenomenon where high-achieving, low-income students tend to enroll at two-year secondary institutions or nonselective four-year institutions, with lower graduation rates, and tend to have lower rates of completion. It was found that students are “more likely to graduate college when they attend the most academically demanding institution that will admit them” (Byndloss et al).
The purpose of this project is to help students choose institutions that will be a good academic and social fit. The goal is to apply some of the “conventional” wisdom of applying to college -- the safety/match/reach model -- and provide more insight and information to students who may be unaware of this approach.
By providing high school students with the connection to near-peer experts in their community, our project aims to help these students navigate the college application process, and to ultimately increase the number of high-achieving students who enroll in “College Point” schools, which are defined as colleges that have graduation rates higher than 70%.
Position Overview:
As a college coach, you will be volunteering through RCSD, but will be reporting to a member of the Hoekelman Center team.
