A room is still a room
Even when there’s nothing there but gloom;
But a room is not a house,
And a house is not a home
When the two of us are far apart
And one of us has a broken heart
Burt Bacharach / Hal David: “A House Is Not a Home”
Atmospheric Disturbances, a psychiatrist comes to believe that his wife is actually a double. Mischka, the eponymous young heroine of Julya Rabinowich’s novel, suffers from a split personality: born in Leningrad, she and her family are transplanted from a Jewish community of artists to 1970s Vienna. And the socially diverse characters of Graz-based Olga Flor’s Kollateralschaden cross paths for one hour in the agora of the present – a supermarket where their fears and dreams clash.
