Description: Volunteer opportunity available for 2 undergraduate or graduate students who are interested in committing to approximately 2 hours per week assisting in tutoring 12-18 year olds who are currently in treatment in an acute psychiatric setting. The adolescents are admitted to this unit due to a struggle with a significant mental health concern. This is a calm and non-violent setting. Adolescents on this unit have 3 hours of academic programming per day to assist them in keeping up with their educational programming set forth by their home school district. Academic abilities range from struggling to meet grade appropriate academic goals, to advanced placement high school coursework. Volunteers would go through the Friends of Strong for this placement and would be asked to commit to a minimum of 1 semester.
