Political Engagement

Students interested in pursuing academic research and internships in local, state, or federal government are encouraged to contact faculty in their department or in the Department of Political Science. A number of Study Abroad programs are also available for students interested in research and internship opportunities abroad. Numerous student organizations such as the Students' Association Senate, All-Campus Judicial Council (ACJC), Undergraduate Political Science Council, College Democrats, College Republicans, Students for Liberty, and Students for Social Justice also encourage participation in local and national affairs through on- and off-campus programming.

R' World R' Vote

This student-coordinated initiative encourages students to be politically engaged and active participants in the democratic process. Projects include voter registration, policy briefings, legislative action, and opportunities to meet with elected officials.

National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement

In the fall of 2003 the University of Rochester was one of 22 schools invited to join the National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement, an initiative of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Participating schools work individually and collectively to develop programs on electoral politics, build foundations in civic education, and provide resources and information on careers in public affairs and politics. Selected Rochester students have the opportunity to attend the annual conference of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University.
